We'd like your travel experience to be a pleasant one. Passengers with checked baggage are asked to arrive 90 minutes before their flight's departure. Traffic, baggage check, and screening can take time and delays do occur. Give yourself plenty of time to comfortably board your flight.
For questions about what you may check or carry on, refer to the Security page of this site. Be aware of security requirements to avoid loss of property and delays during the screening process. Information about checking wine is included below. For more information about checking baggage on Horizon Air, please visit horizonair.com.
Check In Without Bags
When traveling without checked baggage, passengers are requested to arrive 60 minutes before departure.
Carry On Items
You're allowed one carry-on bag, plus one personal item, such as a purse, briefcase or laptop computer.
Check In with Checked Baggage
Passengers who are checking baggage are advised to arrive 90 minutes before departure. The check in counter closes 30 minutes before posted departure. Currently, passengers may check two bags at no charge. Starting July 1, Horizon will begin charging $25 for a second checked bag and $125 for a third bag.
Boarding
To accommodate all travelers on a flight, passengers must be checked in and available to board at the designated boarding gate at least 30 minutes before posted departure for all flights. Failure to meet these requirements may cause the cancellation of reserved seats and/or the entire reservation.
Checking Wine: Special exception to checked-baggage policy at STS
No carry on alcohol is allowed. However, in addition to the one piece of baggage that can be checked at no charge, Horizon will accept a box of up to 12 bottles of wine per passenger at no extra charge from customers on flights departing Sonoma County. The wine must be packaged to courier standards for shipment. The liquid and gel ban by the TSA removed the ability of passengers to carry the wine they purchased on board, so Horizon developed this program in partnership with the Sonoma County wine community, allowing customers to purchase their favorite wines and sparing them the hassle and expense of shipping them separately.
Wine Skins are available in the Terminal for the leak-proof packaging of single bottles of wine in checked baggage (pack in baggage before checking in). They are offered for purchase from Airport vending machines at the cost of $2.50 each.
There is no restriction on the amount of alcohol you may pack in your checked baggage, provided it contains under 24% alcohol by volume (e.g. beer and wine). Alcohol greater than 24% up to and including 70% (140) proof) is allowed with the following restrictions:
-
Up to five liters of alcohol per package
-
Up to five liters of alcohol per person
-
Must be in retail packaging
Alcohol over 70% (140 proof) is prohibited.
Lost, delayed, or damaged luggage
Delayed or damaged bags should be reported in person to the Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air baggage office within 24 hours of arrival time. Failure to report baggage mishandling of any type will result in a denial of compensation. It's important to retain copies of your ticket, baggage claim check and any receipts you may have accumulated for expenses incurred as a result of the mishandling. For more information, contact our Central Baggage Service office at 1-206-392-6580.
